The rationale for this topic
When my family and I went to Barcelona, our driver explained how Catalans would be voting for their independence in October. During my time in the capital of Catalonia, I became increasingly interested in the affair. As a six-year Spanish student, my first time in a Spanish-speaking country excited me. However, my accent proved difficult for natives to understand. Catalan, the official language of Catalonia, is an "off-Spanish." The speaking difference is one reason why people believe Catalonia should not be a part of Spain. This project combines my interests in global studies, history, and Spanish.
